As part of the ongoing plumbing upgrades aboard Johanna Rose, I added a pressurized seawater system that serves two purposes: providing a convenient deck washdown connection and supplying seawater to the galley and head sinks.
The heart of the system is a Johnson Pump Aqua Jet 5.2 washdown pump, which provides pressurized seawater throughout the system. For the deck connection, I installed an Aquor Marine Washdown Outlet, providing a clean, compact connection for a washdown hose when needed.
The plumbing was run using 1/2-inch PEX tubing with Flair-It fittings. In addition to supplying the deck washdown outlet, the system was extended into the cabin to provide seawater at both the galley and head sinks.
Having seawater available at the sinks is particularly useful aboard a cruising boat. It allows seawater to be used for jobs such as preliminary dishwashing and cleanup, conserving the boat's limited supply of fresh water. On deck, the same system provides a convenient source of pressurized seawater for washing down the anchor, chain, deck, and other equipment.
